Edgemont - $560k - 2 to 4pm

This was posted this past summer when it was FSBO (at least I think so), but the price drop is large enough to warrant a renewed listing.  The Jordan Park area has some great MCM homes, while some need love, this one has already has a fair amount of updating.

This place isn’t something I’d traditional post up.   Yes, Chris Robertson, originally of KRDB and now of Robertson Design, used to own the place and did the renovation, but it clearly isn’t of classic modern design.

However, it is right next to my place and I want good / interesting neighbors.

Bercy Chen Studios tend to be more boxy on their new build and through a mixture of glass, wood, and outdoor space, they are warm and inviting places.  As much as the Lake Austin place is nice to gawk at I find this house more inviting to live in (though I’d highly prefer living on the lake):

Things are slow on the local front, so I take you to the NY Times photo gallery and this article on interior gardens in apartments. I love the inside garden. I used to have a loft in Seattle that had huge plants and even a 8′ by 4′ pond. I loved it, though we had to move out when the landlord refused to fix the heat during the winter. That sucked.

After that place we embarked on our move every 9-12 month phase that last until very recently. Moving isn’t good for the plants or gardening so we pretty much are are square one now as we start in our new place.

This place has been on the market for some time now. I went over to it during the summer and I have to say, the house itself is very lovely and sits on a nice city lot. The street that it is one also has another nice MCM home that was sold last year. I think this come could be a real gem, though I very well don’t think they’ll ever get that price.

The downside, which I am sure many would love to point out, is the location. For those out of town, some locals seem very afraid of all of East Austin and think of it as the ghetto. It isn’t (save perhaps a handful of streets) compared to every other urban city I’ve been to or lived in, but we are still a bit small town here on some things. That gives Austin some of its charm but also can be annoying at times.
